About Us

Capital Cats Incorporated (CCI) is a founding member of the Coordinating Cat Council of Australia (CCCA). As such, our breed registrations are recognised by all governing bodies affiliated with either the CCCA or the Australian Cat Federation (ACF). Our aim is to promote and encourage the ethical breeding, showing and selling of recognised breeds of cats in the ACT and surrounding region.

CCI has two levels of membership:
Member - resident of the Australian Capital Territory.
Associate Member - interstate resident registered with the CCCA body of the state or territory in which they reside.

CCI was previously part of the Royal National Capital Agricultural Society (RNCAS) and was know as the RNCAS Cat Club. Following administrative changes within the RNCAS in the early 1990s Capital Cats Incorporated was formed. CCI became an incorporated, self sufficient, stand-alone entity in April 1995. CCI continues to maintain close ties with the RNCAS.

The Birman Cat Club of Canberra was founded in 1980 after the arrival of the Birman breed in Canberra. The club has members from across most Australian States. For 18 years it has been holding an annual Birman Specialist Show in Canberra, Legend has it that the Birman cat originated in the temples of Burma before the time of Christ. This distinctive cat is a semi-long hair with a cream body, coloured points, white feet and deep blue eyes. It is a placid breed, very people oriented.
